The hosting service I've gone with gives me limited permissions for changing MySQL settings, and given that Sequel Pro and SQLyog can connect successfully, I don't want to start messing about and changing things randomly. I've also tried with MySQL Workbench on a Mac, but that crashed all over the place, simply when I was typing in server names and passwords. (I have read that Workbench says it needs the Public key file, but actually means the Private key file. I find it frustrating, as, in SQL Workbench, I specified the "MySQL Hostname" to use, ., but Workbench seems to ignore it, and demand to connect to 127.0.0.1 instead. No problems.īut if I try to connect use MySQL's own " MySQL Workbench" application, using exactly the same settings and SSH Private Key file, it refuses to connect, throwing the well-known error:Ĭan't connect to MySQL server on 127.0.0.1' (10061)

If I run the trial version of SQLyog on a PC, it also connects fine. If I run Sequel Pro on a Mac, it connects fine, and I can browse and query the database.

I specifically want to use the PC version of MySQL Workbench, to access this database, for running queries, checking data, etc. I have to use SSH to connect to it, and I have the relevant Public and Private Key files. The problem: I have a MySQL database running on a hosted server. I know this question has been asked many times before, but I've tried lots of suggestions, and simply can't find a solution. Any help is deeply appreciated.MySQL Workbench: “Can't connect to MySQL server on 127.0.0.1'(10061)” error It doesn't in mine and instead gives me the "keyring-file" and "early plugin" line.ģ) Whenever I connect to a server (be it localhost / 127.0.01), it doesn't ask me for a password, but it seems to do so on other people's computers. I've seen when other people do this they show a line towards the end after the "pid-file" line that tells you the port ID. "-early-plugin-load=keyring_file=keyring_file.so" "-keyring-file-data=/usr/local/mysql/keyring/keyring", "-plugin-dir=/usr/local/mysql/lib/plugin", I also don't seem to have a /etc/ file in general.Ģ) After typing in "defaults read /Library/LaunchDaemons/.ist" There's some stuff about typing "sudo nano /etc/mysql/my.cnf" and editing the file, but I've tried many many different locations, /./my.cnf but it always comes up with a blank "new file". I then typed "SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'skip_networking' " and it saysĪpparently I should turn it off, but I don't know how. I looked this up and apparently it may have to do with skip network. I typed in "SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES LIKE 'PORT' " and it says Here are some information that may help:ġ) On terminal, I've typed in "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql" and it brought me to "MySQL>". I've tried many things by following things online. After the DMG file finishes downloading click on it to open. Go to the MySQL web site and select the version that matches your version of Mac OS.

**Things I've Tried/Useful information: ** The first step is to download MySQL server. When I test connection, it says "Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (61)". I have also tried Setting up my own connection, using Standard TCP/IP, Hostname-127.0.0.1, port 3306, username -root. Please set the command that must be used to start the server in the remote management section of this connections settings." When I try pressing the start server button in "Instance" -> "Startup/Shutdown", it says "Command to start the server is not configured. After I connect to the default local instance 3306, it says server status is stopped and there is no connection. I have the MySQL server RUNNING (it says running in Systems Preference -> MySQL) and yet start a local server on my laptop.

I've downloaded the MySQL 8.0.17 and Workbench 8.0.17. I'd deeply appreciate it if any can help. I'm getting quite frustrated having spent hours and hours trying to get MySQL and workbench working.
